OutputMode
What the device streams on its EEG channels — the one-byte value of the output-mode characteristic (GattUuids.OUTPUT_MODE_CHARACTERISTIC); codes are the wire contract, matching the vendor C SDK's output_mode.h. Firmware 3.7.0 and later expose the characteristic; older firmware has none and always streams NORMAL.
The device applies the value at the next stream start and keeps it until it is power-cycled — across stream restarts and reconnects, whoever wrote it — so a host that wants electrode data must write NORMAL explicitly rather than rely on a default.

The ADS1299's internal test signal on every channel instead of the electrodes: a square wave of 3.74 mV peak-to-peak (±1.87 mV) at about 1 Hz, input-referred — the same µV at every gain, which makes it a check of the whole scaling chain (measured on the EXG8 board, fw 3.7.0).
