Quick start#

Your first recording session in five steps. No hardware? Step 1 works with a synthetic signal too.

1. Connect a source#

Open Connect (sidebar, Ctrl+1).

  • BrainAccess headset: click the BrainAccess card. Power on the device; it appears in the list as the continuous Bluetooth scan finds it. Set Launch: to Signal and click Connect.

  • No hardware: click the Synthetic Data card, pick a template, and click Connect — Board generates a test signal.

  • External LSL stream: click the Network card and connect to any stream visible on your network.

The source moves into the Connected Devices section at the top of the screen. Details: Connect.

2. Check electrode contact (optional, hardware only)#

For a real headset, good electrode contact makes or breaks the recording. On the BrainAccess card set Launch: to Impedance and click Start Impedance — the View screen shows contact quality per electrode instead of signal. Adjust the headset until contact is good, then disconnect and reconnect in Signal mode.

3. Watch the signal#

Open View (Ctrl+3). You should see live traces for every channel. If the signal drifts or hums, turn on the FILTER chip (e.g. Low 1 Hz, High 40 Hz) and the Notch chip (50 or 60 Hz depending on your mains). These affect the display only — recordings always keep the raw signal. Details: View.

4. Record#

Open Record (Ctrl+2).

  1. Check the SOURCES card lists your device.

  2. Fill in Subject, Session, Run (defaults are fine to start), optionally a Task name.

  3. Click the green Start recording.

  4. When done, click the red Stop recording.

The file lands in your recordings folder (Show in Files in the recent-recordings list opens it). Details: Record.

5. Review and convert#

  • Review: in Record’s recent list click V to open the recording in the viewer, or use View → Open Recording.

  • Convert: open Convert (Ctrl+5), pick your file, choose a target format (FIFF for MNE, SET for EEGLAB, BDF/CSV for general use) and click Convert selected files. Details: Convert.
